IV.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY:

Installs as well as performs routine and general maintenance on district-owned computers and peripheral equipment using efficient, economical, and environmentally sound procedures and practices to ensure safe and proper operation.

V.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Appointed annually for a 12-month period, July 1 through June 30

VI.QUALIFICATIONS:

a. A certified for computer repairs, Apple and Dell certified computer technician preferred.

b. Experience with computer and laser printer repair, installation, maintenance and inventory.

c. Ability to troubleshoot and correct computer failures including board level repairs, alignment
and processing for outside maintenance as required.

d. Extensive shop experience with computer network maintenance including twisted-
pair Ethernet, coaxial cable, single and multi-mode fiber installation.

e. Organizational skills and the ability to work independently, efficiently and effectively under flexible
scheduling.

f. Ability to work well with students, members of the school community, the general public, and vendors
in a patient and caring way.

g. Holds valid NJ Motor Vehicle operator’s license.

h. Familiarity with Windows, OS-X, and UNIX a plus.

i. Other qualifications the Board of Education may find appropriate.

j. Required criminal history background check, proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status, and proof of acceptable Mantoux test results.

VII.MACHINERY/EQUIPMENT USED:

Computers, printers, general maintenance and repair tools and equipment, diagnostic equipment, hand and power tools and an array of network, electrical and repair components and assemblies, office equipment and other items associated with the maintenance of school/office computers and related devices.

VIII.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

a. Identify computer and printer failures, repair equipment at the board level, align hardware and
make other electrical and mechanical repairs, process items for outside maintenance under warranty
or for fee as required.

b. Test and install all newly purchased computer equipment. Configure system components and
peripherals including storage devices, sound cards, network interface cards, displays and printers.

c. Cross connect, test and maintain district Ethernet and fiber connected networks. Update cross- connect documentation as needed.

d. Maintain the district computer hardware inventories on a regular basis and
perform overall inventories, track warranty status.

e. Transport hardware and other related equipment to district sites for installation and repair.

f. Assist with maintenance, installation and inventory audio-visual equipment.

g. Assist with supervision of after school student help.

h. Plans and organizes daily/weekly work, ensuring its completion in an efficient, effective and timely
manner using the appropriate tools, materials and equipment.

i. Maintains work area(s) in a clean and safe manner, cleans up work and puts away tools and materials
at the end of each work day.

j. Reports immediately to the supervisor evidence of unsafe conditions, vandalism, etc.

k. Estimates costs of equipment repair projects in terms of labor and materials.

l. Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase and maintains the inventory of district-owned tools,
equipment, hardware, and materials and supplies. Informs the supervisor in advance of needs.

m. Keeps records of work completed, materials used and time spent and prepares reports as required.

n. Coordinates work and projects with other personnel when required.

o. Participates in in-service and mandated training activities as assigned.

p. Complete other tasks as may be assigned by the supervisor.

IX. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
Ability to perform all types of physical tasks (i.e., sitting, talking, walking, bending, crouching, leaning, standing, reaching, balancing, climbing, shoving, pushing, pulling, etc.) with dexterity and strength over extended periods of time, usually in both indoor and outdoor environments. Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds without assistance and up to 75 pounds with assistance. Ability to perform tasks to completion while handling frequent interruptions. Ability to anticipate needs and to respond calmly and effectively to emergency/crisis situations.
